How many ways can fashions really be introduced? From the 20s to the 40s, new fashions were constantly being created. The 50s to the 90s made way for a little reinvention based on the silhouettes of the prior decades. But now, I have concluded that fashion is fresh out of ideas. The runways are home to recycled looks or 'wearable art' that in actually isn't so wearable. The late Alexander McQueen was praised for his design genius, but he was more costume design than everyday wear.
My favorite era for fashion and music in that respect was the late 80s/early 90s. Pictured above is rap duo, Salt 'N' Pepa, wearing distressed and destroyed denim. Remember when jean suits were too cool in like '97?! Shortly thereafter, it was no longer fashionable to wear a two-piece ensemble or denim-on-denim. Yet, in 2010, those pieces are shown on the runways and back in stores. Even that two-tone haircut has come back full circle by means of Rihanna who has every girl wanting short hair now. See what I mean?
For these reasons, I can blame myself for not hopelessly pouring over magazines and every new happening of the fashion industry. I will just find my place in history and dictate what's 'hot' for myself.
